At Ella Mae, acknowledging the Earth as the provider of all things is central to our process. We create seasonless garments that can be worn, treasured, and passed down forever. In an effort to foster a respectful connection to the planet, each piece is mindfully made – Ella Mae is crafted from the earth, for the Earth. Our garments are a show of appreciation for our planet, a wearable expression of the beauty of nature, our offerings.
Naturally Dyed
We utilize natural dyes frequently and freely– hues are created using rust, flowers, tree roots, fruit & vegetable waste, coffee, and age-old techniques. Many of our pieces are individually dyed by nature and careful hands at our studio, imbuing our garments with the rich pigments and eternal wisdom of the Earth.
Fibers & Fabrics
We take careful consideration of our fabrics, prioritizing high quality natural fibers and using deadstock fabrics wherever we can. By using deadstock fabric, we save material that would have otherwise been discarded and added to the massive amount of waste produced by the fashion industry. Our textile choices prioritize quality and longevity, natural fibers, and sustainable sourcing, all while keeping their long term impact on the earth in mind.
Windows Into Our World
The runway has become a space for us to offer a completely immersive experience into the Ella Mae world, crafting elaborate shows and installations that feel like hidden oases and secret gardens. We are especially interested in exploring the interaction between the natural world and the modern one. We aim to create spaces where onlookers feel the potent spiritual experience the Earth offers, reminding them of the wonders to be found following butterflies and getting tangled up in tree roots.
Mindfully Made
Made in California with a keen eye for craftsmanship and quality construction. We are very hands-on with the garment construction process, working closely with manufacturers to ensure that each piece is created with the care and quality we believe clothing deserves. By keeping manufacturing local, we reduce our environmental impact and are able to employ those in our community.
Couture
Each year, we dedicate an abundance of time to crafting numerous couture styles for our runway shows. These pieces are designed, drafted, and hand sewn in our Los Angeles atelier; they are a true act of slow fashion, precision, and love.
